Usually when we run into the poison ivy plant the toxic urushiol oil will stick to our clothes and get all over our arms, hands, or legs. In rare cases the oil will touch our hands without us knowing and the rash will form on our face. This is possibly one of the worst places that it could be attacking.
Having a rash all over your face is uncomfortable because it is a sensitive place for us. If you are prone to severe outbreaks than you will also experience blisters. Not only is this extremely painful – but it keeps us from wanting to be seen by anyone in public. There are medications and creams that you can use which will help to treat it faster.
Natural Remedies
This is a very sensitive part of your body that you don’t want to scar or mess up. It is best to treat poison ivy on the face with natural remedies if you can. One of the first things you should do is wash your face with warm water and baking soda. Create a type of paste from these two ingredients and spread it all over the affected area of the face. The baking soda helps to dry the skin out and pull the toxins away.
If you don’t think that this is strong enough than you can add one more ingredient to the paste – oatmeal. There are a number of oatmeal bath kits that are used for people with the poison ivy rash or chicken pox. You can save money by making your own paste and spreading it over the face. The oatmeal helps to relieve the itching.
The oatmeal and baking soda paste should be hot – but not so that it will burn your face. Spread it all over the face and leave it on until it has dried out. Carefully rinse it off with lukewarm water.
During the day when you are having a hard time trying to keep your fingers from scratching at your face you can apply cool, wet compresses. Try to apply them for thirty minutes every day. If you are having an extreme outbreak and swelling you should take antihistamines.
