One of the worst symptoms that we can experience when we have come into contact with poison ivy is the itch that is associated with the rash. Children have the worst time with it because they have nothing better to do than to scratch at it all day long in the hopes that it will give them some type of relief. But in the end all scratching it will do is make it more irritated and prevent it from healing.
Poison Ivy Relief
Look at the different types of methods or poison ivy creams that you are able to use. Each of these will provide you with immediate relief for a few hours or even a few minutes at a time.
Warm Bath – Taking a bath will help to soothe the irritation of the skin and the itch and is great at removing the excess urushiol oil that is lingering behind after you were exposed. After the first initial bath you can try to add baking soda to it. This has a great soothing effect for the skin.
Cold Compress – When in doubt try making a cold compress using water or milk. Apply it directly to the skin for immediate relief.
Tea Tree Oil – This is a type of oil that is extracted from the Narrow Leaved Tea Tree. It is known for being an antiseptic, antifungal, and antibacterial. You can purchase this at many health and beauty stores.
Oatmeal Mask – Create a mask by cooking plain oatmeal. Make sure it is nice and thick and cooled off before applying a thick layer of it on the rash. This will bring you immediate relief.
Calamine Lotion – This is probably the most common poison ivy relief. This can be spread generously over the rash and will provide you with immediate relief. You can find this at many health and grocery stores.
Benadryl Lotion – Benadryl comes in a pill and lotion form. The lotion is the best one to use because it is faster and more effective when you need immediate relief for your skin.
Banana Peel – It is hard to believe – but many swear to this treatment. Simply rub the inside of the banana peel over the rash and it will bring instant relief and a stop to the itch.
